Digital Design Term 1 - Criterion A

Week 1
Classroom rules poster

Week 2
Task 1 - Introduction

I was born in Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa. I moved to Johannesburg when I was 6 months old in 2005. I attended kindergarden when I was 3 years old, at Baby’s Adventure Land. My parents Elaine & Reagan Govender have always supported my choices and had taken care of me in a loving and caring manner. I am glad that they have done what they have done “they are the stars in my life.

My name is Jamin Josiah govender. When I was six years old, I went to Sagewood School, South Africa. I attended this school from grade 1-2. At that time my parents felt that I needed to move to a school that was up to my level of thinking. I then moved to a school called Reddam House Waterfall. In this school I excelled in many of my subjects. Being a student in this school really boosted my confidence in reality. I have also gained a larger circle of friends which will support me in my growth and future. During my time in this school we have had a lot of field trips. One in particular was a camp, which was an overnight experience. This helped me experience the way of living in a sociable environment amongst friends and teachers.

Some of the things I like to do and some my hobbies are to go out with my dad and enjoy a few laps around a go karting track and try to be faster than one another. Something that I always enjoy with my whole family is to have a nice brunch or dinner at a nice hotel restaurant and also to go bowling almost every weekend.

On 29th August 2014, I officially left the country of South Africa to start a new life in the UAE. This would be my first experience. I had gone to a city called Abu Dhabi and I went to a school called Al Raha International School which then became my place of learning. I have been in this school for 3 years and on the 28th June 2017, I had finally moved to the city of Dubai, where I am currently studying at Emirates International School which then became my new place of learning and I am currently in Year 8 Grade 7. Aside to the UAE, I have travelled to Italy on holiday. Living in the UAE, allows my family and I to travel to lots of countries that are close by. When I visited this country the people were very kind and hospitable.

After School I would like to go NYU University in Abu Dhabi as they have a wonder campus. On the last year of University I will be so fortunate to be able to go the one and only New York City. Where I will be able to for fill my dreams by becoming a successful architect.

How did you come up to the idea of creating that kind of poster version?'

i have learnt how to move around a shape across the workplane

I've learnt to make holes in another shape and learnt to group them together

Task 3 - Homework

Week 5
Criterion A - Inquiring and analyzing

Task 1 - Worksheet #2

lesson 2

Students are continuously on the go, moving from one class to another. During this time, personal belongings are misplaced or even lost. Most students are vigilant about their personal belongings, however, mishaps do happen. Money has been one of the main items that is frequently misplaced or lost. The school principal and department heads are often sending emails to teachers to communicate to the students about practices to ensure that their personal belongings are kept safe at all times. On a regular basis, students have to go to the lost and found to retrieve their misplaced items or even the principal's office, where money is concerned.

Week 6
The design problem and Design Brief

Design Situation

Design Brief

I intend on design an open planned wallet as this will ensure that your student Id or even Drivers license is

visible through the wallet as it allows the user to take out the item without any hassle, rather than someone

scratch through their bulked up wallet, instead the user will just have to take out the product and stretch the

elastic outward to remove the intended card. This product will be made of aluminum as i think that this will

have enough strength to with stand a drop, however this will not be likely as this product will include a carabiner

which will be attached to a piece of paracord which will also be attached the product.

lesson 2
Primary Research

1. What is the purpose of a wallet?

When carrying my lunch money or my bank card to school, I use my Wallet to keep these items safe.

2. How has wallets help people?

In order to have all forms of payment methods in one convenient place, so when paying for something, I have this all in one spot

3. How has technology helped design better and safer wallets?Explain?

I am able to use technology to create wallets of all shapes and sizes. I would then measure the size of the currency that I am using, i.e. Dirhams to see how eel, these would fit into my Wallet. I can also create them in different colors to see how people would react to the various colors. This will allow me to have the best design, before manufacturing.

4. How can wallets help reduce the number of lost money in schools?Explain?

If a wallet falls out of your pocket, you are more likely to notice this as opposed to when a note falls out. Wallet’s will keep the money stored in one place. I will not have to keep my money in all different places and then spend time looking for it.

5. Do you prefer a compact or a big wallet?Explain?

As my school pants is more formal than casual, I would prefer a compact Wallet as it would suite the uniform better. Bigger wallets do not look very nice when bulging in my pocket. Slim or compact wallets have less space to hold receipts or too many cards, which is better to not have all your cards available, in case it gets stolen.

6. How has wallets developed over the years?

The first types of wallets where made from paper and then evolved into leather and other types of material. Earlier wallets where designed like a purse as coins where only used back in time. When notes where printed, wallets then evolved into small book like designs and then eventually into money clips.

Comments

  1. Good work Jamin. Just add the snips of the lessons you learned about the Tinkercad and write a reflection for every lesson learned (lesson 2, week 4).

Go to my blog designyear8.blogspot.com for further instructions.

  2. Jamin,
You need to include the evidence of learning at least four Tinkercad lessons, more than four for the higher mark. Take a screenshot of every lesson, put it on the blog and write a reflection about what you have learned in every lesson.
You need to complete the following tasks:
Week 2 – design cycle criteria
    Week 5 – G.R.A.S.P.S. worksheet
Week 5 – Design situation and design brief

Check my blog about the tasks to be done - designyear8.blogspot.com
